The nation’s next weather and climate satellite was launched early Friday on a Delta II rocket provided by Centennial-based United Launch Alliance.

The $1.5 billion NPP spacecraft, which will collect information for use in weather forecasting and climate monitoring, was built by Ball Aerospace & Technologies of Boulder.

Systems for retrieving data were developed by Raytheon employees in Aurora. Colorado State University scientists will help with research based on NPP measurements.
