BOULDER — The Daily Camera reported that the homeless man who police say stabbed two other men — one of them fatally — early Friday told officers that he was defending himself after the men attacked him.

Charles Edward Waters, 56, was arrested by police on suspicion of first- degree murder and attempted first- degree murder. He said he was sleeping in an abandoned shed when he was attacked by two men, and he used a knife to defend himself.

The injured men were transported to Boulder Community Hospital. One of them, who has yet to be identified, died in surgery.
