GAUHATI, India — A foot bridge spanning a river in northeast India collapsed Saturday, and police said 30 people were feared drowned.
Police and paramilitary forces rescued at least 28 villagers from the river, said senior police officer Kyle Aya. One later died in a hospital.
Many of the people crossing the bridge when it collapsed were women and children, Aya said. The bridge crosses the Kameng River in Arunachal Pradesh state.
