0058 Redstone Blvd., Redstone, 970-963-9656,

Why visit now: Looking for something to do that can’t be wrecked if the weather suddenly turns cold and wintery? Redstone Castle will one day be a hotel and spa, but until then, this beautiful, 1897 mansion, which sits at the edge of the Crystal River, can be toured on the weekends. It was used in the movie “The Prestige,” and is filled with work by Gustav Stickley and Louis Comfort Tiffany, as well as the original furnishings purchased throughout Europe by John Cleveland Osgood, a coal and steel pioneer who was once the sixth wealthiest man in the country. The castle is located in the appealing artists’ magnet Redstone, which is filled with interesting galleries and shops. Cost: $15 adults, $10 ages 5-18. Kyle Wagner
