About 55 percent of Colorado’s college graduates last year left school with student loan debt, an average balance of $22,017, according to a report released today from the Project on Student Debt at the Institute for College Access & Success.

That balance is up 5.5 percent in Colorado and 5.2 percent nationally from 2009. Colorado students are graduating with less debt than the national average of $25,200.
