BRECKENRIDGE, Colo.—The Colorado district attorney who filed sexual assault charges against NBA superstar Kobe Bryant has lost his bid to extend term limits for his office.

Mark Hurlbert said he was disappointed, but glad the question got to a vote on Tuesday.

Hurlbert told the Summit Daily ( ) that part of being a prosecutor is following the will of the people, whether it’s a jury or in politics.

Under current law, Hurlbert will be term-limited in 2012 and will leave office in January 2013.
