A woman accused of stealing $1 million from the Colorado Public Employees’ Retirement Association was sentenced today to 10 years in prison.

Beth Ann Roybal, 53, plead guilty in August to felony theft.s

According to a news release from the Denver District Attorney’s office, a restitution hearing is scheduled for Nov. 21, and Roybal will be able to request a reconsideration of her sentence at a hearing scheduled for next January.

The District Attorney’s office originally charged Roybal with 19 counts of theft and one count of forgery. Most of those charges were later dismissed.

Roybal was a senior portfolio manager at PERA, working as a property manager for PERA-owned property until she retired in February of 2010.

She was accused of skimming rent checks and submitting fake invoices for the property she managed.

Denver Deputy District Attorney Kandace Gerdes argued for the maximum sentence of 12 years.
