LONGMONT, Colo.—The Boulder County Republican Party is seeking a waiver of an $18,600 fine stemming from its late filing of a campaign-finance report that was due more than a year ago.
The Daily Times-Call reports ( ) the filing was due Oct. 25, 2010. Late filings can be penalized with a fine of $50 per day.
The Colorado secretary of state’s elections division notified the Boulder County Republican Central Committee on Friday that its penalty for the delinquent filing totaled $18,600.
The Times-Call reports County Republican Chairman Joel Champion wrote to the secretary of state’s campaign finance support team Friday saying the delinquent filing was due to a “simple accounting misunderstanding” and a change in officers, including a new chairman.
