The driver of a truck was killed Friday in Lakewood when the truck veered off the shoulder of West Alameda Avenue and smashed into a tree.
At 10:51 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of West Alameda Avenue and South Estes Street, where officers found the truck wrapped around a tree, said Steve Hipwell, spokesman for the Lakewood Police Department.
The driver, the only person in the truck, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers had not yet identified the driver.
Witnesses told officers the truck was being driven at a high speed west on Alameda. Witnesses also told investigators the truck did not slow down as it veered off the right side of the road near Colorado Christian University.
