DENVER—Two companies have energy customers competing to save electricity.

Boulder- based Simple Energy is offering prizes that include iPods and computers for top energy savers.

Virginia.-based Opower is working with electric companies to create competition to cut power bills.

According to the Denver Post (), Opower is running a test program with about 50,000 Xcel Energy customers in Colorado. Customers get reports showing how much energy they are using and how they are doing compared with other customers.
