Holiday shopping for a cause
Today. Get a jumpstart on holiday shopping at the 38th Annual Doll Tea & Holiday Festival hosted by the Denver Metro Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary. Volunteers create and sell handmade cards, ornaments, food, quilts, miniatures, vintage dolls and more to benefit the Auxiliary’s Dress A Child program, which gives new clothes and shoes to at-risk kids at back-to-school time. Weathering the winter
Sunday. During “Bears: Getting Ready for Winter” from noon to 3 p.m., naturalists from the Lookout Mountain Nature Center will talk about Colorado’s native black bears. Attendees can learn how these massive animals prepare for winter months, and what to do during a chance bear encounter in the wild. No registration is required for this free event. Giddy Up
Sunday. The 6th Annual Golden Gallop 5K/10K race is expected to draw nearly 1,000 participants to raise money for the Golden Schools Foundation. The race takes place near Splash Aquatic Center and winds through picturesque bike paths and residential streets. Runners can compete for cash prizes; participants will receive a long-sleeved 0Greenlayer Sports shirt. Kids can enjoy a Western-themed bouncy house and face painting.
