Thornton is one of the best cities in the country in using technology to boost public service.

At least that’s the result of the annual Digital Cities Survey conducted by the Cities for Digital Government. The survey spotlights cities and towns that best show how information and communication technology can help local residents.

Thornton is ranked sixth among U.S. cities with a population between 75,000 and 124,999.

“We are honored and excited to be recognized by the Center for Digital Government,” said Thornton Information Technology Director Jim Creese. “This award represents our continual efforts to create operating efficiencies by matching appropriate technology to business processes, allowing us to effectively provide the excellent services our residents expect in Thornton.”

The top 10 cities are selected in four different population categories. The municipalities are judged on the criteria of “enterprise applicability or impact across multiple program areas, measurable progress for the prior year, hard dollar savings or soft dollar benefits as a result of technology use, innovation and a demonstration of effective collaboration,” according to a statement from the city of Thornton.
