PUEBLO — Quarterback Ross Dausin passed for 261 yards and had a hand in four touchdowns — three passing and one rushing — to help CSU-Pueblo defeat Western State 41-3 on Saturday and remain undefeated.
The victory gives the ThunderWolves (10-0, 8-0 RMAC) at least a share of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship.
It was the fourth time this season Dausin has thrown for more than 200 yards, as he was backed by a dominant defense that held the Mountaineers (1-9, 1-7) to only 100 yards of offense.
Western State’s only score was on a 52-yard field goal in the first quarter — just the third time all season the ThunderWolves trailed in a game. The field goal brought the season total of points allowed at home to just 16 points in five games.
Colorado Mines 31, Chadron State 24
GOLDEN — Dan Palmer scored the go-ahead touchdown with just over three minutes remaining in the game to send the Orediggers (8-2, 6-2) to their fourth straight win.
Clay Garcia threw for 260 yards and touchdown. He also scored on a 1-yard run to tie the game at 24 in the third quarter.
The Eagles (5-5, 5-3) had a chance to tie the game late in the fourth quarter, but turned the ball over on downs after failing to convert on fourth-and-10 at their 34-yard line.
Colorado Mesa 20, Adams State 13
GRAND JUNCTION — In their final home game of the season, Steve Romero threw for two touchdowns and the Mavericks (4-6, 3-5) held on for their first home victory.
The Grizzlies (5-5, 3-5) racked up 317 total offensive yards, compared with Colorado Mesa’s 193, but struggled to get the ball in the end zone, scoring just one touchdown and two field goals.
Nebraska-Kearney 54, Fort Lewis 7
DURANGO — The Lopers (9-1, 7-1) took a 14-0 lead five minutes into the game, and never relented against the Skyhawks (2-8, 1-7).
Nebraska-Kearney held Fort Lewis to just 48 total offensive yards, while intercepting quarterback Cougar Beaubien twice.
The Skyhawks’ touchdown came on an 11-yard pass from Beaubien to Doyle Bode in the first quarter.
