SYDNEY — An Afghan soldier opened fire at a base in Afghanistan, seriously wounding three Australian soldiers, officials said Wednesday. It was the second such attack on Australian soldiers in less than two weeks.
The shooter also wounded two Afghan soldiers in Tuesday’s attack at a base in southern Uruzgan province, Australian Defense Force chief Lt. Gen. David Hurley said. Australian soldiers were hunting for the attacker, who fled in an Afghan army vehicle.
Officials also said Tuesday that insurgents on Monday in western Badghis province set off a roadside bomb targeting a police truck filled with officers and their family members.
Of the 11 people killed, only two were police officers; among the dead were six children, ranging in age from 2 months to 12 years, and two women.
