A Logan County man was found guilty Tuesday night and sentenced to life in prison in the 2010 death of his 3-year-old daughter.

After less than four hours of deliberation, a Morgan County jury found Mark Weeks guilty of first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death, said Robert Watson, 13th Judicial District attorney.

On July 8, 2010, Weeks’ daughter Alexis arrived at Sterling Regional Medical Center with a skull fracture. She was airlifted to Children’s Hospital Colorado, where she died the next day.

As soon as she arrived at the Sterling hospital, medical staff saw evidence of severe abuse and called police.

“We have reason to believe that she was abused in one form or another for the majority of her life,” Watson said.

In addition to her skull fracture, Alexis had multiple bruises on her body and was recovering from a rib fracture.

After reading the verdict, the judge immediately sentenced Mark Weeks, who was 27 at the time of the crime, to life in prison without parole.
