DENVER—Authorities say a man whose drug ring bought comic books to launder money from methamphetamine sales has been sentenced to 45 years in prison.
Attorney General John Suthers says a judge sentenced 31-year-old Aaron Castro of Commerce City Thursday.
A grand jury indicted Castro in August 2009. Suthers says Castro pleaded to violating Colorado’s organized crime law, drug distribution and extortion.
Authorities say Castro’s 41-person drug ring distributed as much as 100,000 doses of meth throughout metro Denver.
During the arrest of Castro and other defendants in 2009, authorities said they seized comic books worth at least $500,000. They included first edition Superman and Batman books, with some books worth as much as $3,400.
