It must have been the devil that made him do it. After all, John Daly is ranked No. 666 in golf’s world rankings. Daly was 7-over par through 10 holes of Thursday’s first round of the Australian Open after becoming upset with a ruling on the 10th that penalized him a stroke. He casually putted out on the 10th and took a triple-bogey 7. On the 11th, he hit seven balls into the water before turning over his scorecard to Hunter Mahan and Craig Parry and walking off the course. Daly said he quit because he ran out of balls, but infuriated Australasian Tour officials immediately banned him from playing in the Australian PGA in two weeks. “You always hear a story of J.D. doing something,” Mahan said. “(I was) right in the middle of it.” The Associated Press; AP photo
