Offers of wireless Internet, laptops and an updated library are not enough to make concerned Merrill Middle School parents warm up to the idea of having an elementary school in the same building.
Thursday night, Denver Public Schools staff presented ideas on how Creative Challenge Community — an elementary performance school approved in June — could be included within the underutilized southeast Denver middle school. The estimated $750,000 project would split up some large classrooms, use separate entrances and build a new playground for elementary students.
“There really is no room at Merrill,” said Mi chelle Olree, one of the parents.
The DPS board is set to vote on the co-location at its regular meeting next week.
