Flames: Calgary lost to Chicago 4-1 on Friday night. . . . They are 2-0 against the Avs, having won 4-2 on Oct. 26 in Calgary and 2-1 in Denver on Sunday. . . . The Flames’ power play is successful just 5.9 percent at home but a league-best 33.3 percent on the road.
Avalanche: Goalie Semyon Varlamov will start in net. He was pulled in Tuesday’s 5-2 loss at Detroit and didn’t play in Thursday’s 4-3 win over the visiting New York Islanders. . . . The Avs snapped a four-game losing streak and won for just the second time in seven home games Thursday. . . . Left wing Peter Mueller, who has missed the past 13 games with post-concussion symptoms, participated in practice Friday but will not play tonight.
Spotlight on Scott Hannan: The former high-priced Avalanche defenseman is in his first season in Calgary after finishing last season with Washington. He was traded from the Avs to the Capitals on Nov. 30, 2010, for forward Tomas Fleischmann, who didn’t pan out for Colorado. Hannan, 32, is still considered a good defensive- minded player with limited offensive ability.
