DENVER—Police found a 3-year-old boy shortly after an unidentified man jumped into a car he was in and drove away when his nanny stopped to help an elderly man who fell at a bus stop.

KMGH-TV reports ( ) that police found the car in an area not far from where the incident happened Monday afternoon. Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson says the nanny pleaded with the alleged carjacker to stop but he took off, dragging the nanny about 10 to 20 feet.

She flagged down another car but she and the driver of that car were unable to locate the vehicle. Police found the boy after receiving a report of a car sideswiping another.

Paramedics responded to examine the boy at the scene. Names were not released.
