BOULDER — Colorado women’s soccer coach Bill Hempen resigned after the Buffaloes went 1-9-1 in their inaugural Pac-12 schedule, the school announced Wednesday.
Hempen coached 11 seasons at Colorado and was named Big 12 Conference coach of the year in 2003 after leading the Buffs to a 15-4-1 record in his second year in Boulder.
But after a string of six straight NCAA appearances (2003-08), Colorado has struggled the past three seasons.
After a 4-13-2 mark this season, Hempen’s overall Colorado record is 114-88-28. His 2003 team won the Big 12 title and reached the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.
“After a very challenging season, I’ve had plenty of time to do some soul-searching (and) consider where we are with the program and what direction we were headed in the future,” Hempen said in a CU release. Tom Kensler, The Denver Post
