The friend of the half-dressed climber who was rescued from the First Flatiron on Friday remains in the Boulder County Jail today and could be charged with felony possession of a controlled substance on Wednesday.
Jon Robert Schuttenberg, 25, of St. Charles, Mo., was arrested Friday after Boulder County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a man who had ingested an unknown substance and could not make his way down the trail.
A man identified by police as Schuttenberg said “I don’t understand what’s going on,” several times and had large pupils, the report said. He also was uncooperative and was handcuffed by police.
As they went down the trail, Schuttenberg pointed to a jacket on a rock and told deputies it was his. According the report, a deputy checked the jacket for identification and found a plastic bag with a greenish-gray mushroom in it. Schuttenberg denied the mushroom belonged to him and said he didn’t know how it got in his jacket.
