Google Inc. is expanding its Boulder campus and filling out the entirety of the former Circuit City building it has partially occupied since early this year, officials for the Mountain View, Calif.-based Internet giant confirmed Friday.
Work is underway to expand Google’s operations throughout 2600 Pearl St., a 34,000- square-foot building that was formerly home to Circuit City, the now-defunct electronics retailer, said Jordan Newman, a Google spokesman.
Google previously leased a 16,000-square-foot portion of the building but saw a need for more room to accommodate new and future hires, he said.
“In 2011 alone, we’ve already hired more than 40 people,” Newman said.
The additions put Google’s Boulder campus at nearly 200 workers — a figure that is expected to grow. But by how much, officials aren’t saying. Newman declined to disclose how many new employees will be added in 2012, saying only that Google is “continuing to hire.”
Since acquiring @Last Software — the Boulder-based maker of 3-D design tool Sketch Up — in 2006, Google has bolstered its operations.
The expansion is expected to be completed sometime next year, Newman said.
