COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Prosecutors say they won’t pursue criminal charges over the death of a 71-year-old man who was knocked unconscious after an argument with a driver in El Paso County.

Investigators say Robert Gott was stopped at an intersection on Sept. 6 when the driver behind him honked because Gott failed to go after the light turned green.

Investigators say Gott then got out of his vehicle, and the other driver, 57-year-old Kevin Cooke, got out to meet him. They say Gott grabbed and pushed Cooke, prompting Cooke to push back. Gott fell backward and hit his head on the ground. He later died of his injuries.

The 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said Monday that Cooke was justified in using force to defend himself.
