Tom DeMint, a longtime member of the Poudre Fire Authority in Larimer County, was picked today as its new chief.

DeMint served as the interim chief of the fire authority since May, when John Mulligan retired as chief.

The Poudre Fire Authority Board of Directors unanimously picked DeMint during a special meeting Monday morning. A national search for a new chief resulted in 78 applicants and the list was then narrowed to three finalists before interviews were conducted last Thursday and Friday.

DeMint has over 34 years of emergency services experience having started as a paramedic in the late ’70s in Topeka, Kan. DeMint rose through the ranks of the Poudre Fire Authority since 1988, when he became a firefighter.

Most recently, he was shift battalion chief assigned to the Operations Division.

“I look forward to PFA moving into the future with a group of women and men that are capable, motivated, engaged and profession,” DeMint said. “Together we can accomplish great things.”
