SUMMIT COUNTY — The Summit County Sheriff’s Office has effectively asked residents and visitors to pay attention.

The northern part of the county has had 14 recent theft cases involving unlocked cars and trucks. In three cases, thieves took wallets, checkbooks, backpacks, skis, electronics and clothing from the open beds of pickup trucks. In another case, a $1,200 generator was carted off from the bed of a pickup.

In some cases, “the vehicles’ owners stated that their cars had been targeted just a couple of weeks prior as well,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. Most of the thefts have happened in the Wildernest, Dillon Valley, Summit Cove and Keystone areas, the agency said.
