Colorado’s unemployment rate dropped to 8.1 percent in October from 8.3 percent a month earlier, according to a survey of households by the state Department of Labor and Employment.

Businesses in the state added 7,900 private sector jobs while government added 900 in October.

“Some positive trends are beginning to emerge on the Colorado jobs front,” said Ellen Golombek, executive director of the state labor department. “While we still have a ways to go to recover all of the jobs lost due to the Great Recession, job creation today is stronger than it was a year ago.

She said the state has added more than 30,000 jobs since the start of the year.
