Denver Zoo has a new polar bear, and it hopes love is on his mind.

Tuesday afternoon, the zoo announced the arrival of Lee, a 12-year-old polar bear from the Detroit Zoo.

Once he’s settled in, Lee, shown at right, will be introduced to Denver Zoo’s 10-year-old bachelorette, Cranbeary.

The matchmaking was based on a recommendation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to help ensure “healthy populations and genetic diversity among zoo animals,” Denver Zoo stated.

This won’t be a first love for Lee, a bit of a rake.

The 900-pound bear arrived at the Detroit Zoo in 2009 from the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago to mate with 24-year-old Burle and 4-year-old Talini.

Lee’s new home will be Denver Zoo’s Northern Shores exhibit.
