A weekend memorial was announced today for an Eagle County doctor killed in a ski accident last Friday on Vail Mountain’s opening day.
The service for Dr. Charlie Tuft will be at Donovan Pavilion at 1600 South Frontage Road in Vail on Sunday at 1:30 p.m., with a reception in his honor from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Tuft, 62, had practiced in the Denver metro area and was a specialist in emergency medicine at Vail Valley Medical Center.
He was president of the Alpine Mobile Physicians, a house-call medical service affiliated with the hospital.
Tuft was chief of emergency medicine at Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver from 1984 to 1997. He had been a homeowner in the Vail Valley since 1991, according to his business biography.
The coroner’s office said Tuft was wearing a helmet when he lost control and went over an embankment on the Gitalong Road, a beginner trail.
