PHILADELPHIA — Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, one of Philadelphia’s celebrated free-agency acquisitions, injured his left knee during practice Thursday and was taken off the field on a cart.

The Eagles had no comment on the extent of the injury and a team spokesman said Asomugha’s status would be updated today. Brandon Hughes likely will receive expanded playing time if Asomugha can’t play Sunday against the Patriots.

Quarterback Michael Vick (ribs) sat out practice again, another sign Vince Young will get his second start in a row.

The Eagles’ top two receivers switched places as far as their practice participation. DeSean Jackson returned after missing Wednesday with a foot bruise, but was limited. Jeremy Maclin sat out Thursday’s session a day after he was a partial practice participant. Maclin revealed his shoulder injury was a Grade 2 separation. He also has a hamstring strain.

McCown works out with Bears

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Quarterback Josh McCown worked out with the Bears for the first time, hours after agreeing to a one-year contract as a backup following Sunday’s injury to Jay Cutler.

“A lot of the stuff is very similar, there’s little wrinkles here and there over the years as things change,” said McCown, who worked with offensive coordinator Mike Martz in 2006 in Detroit. “It’s a quarterback-friendly system.”

McCown previously played with the Cardinals, Lions, Raiders and Panthers.
