EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been ruled out of today’s game because of a sprained left ankle.
The Vikings announced Saturday that Peterson had been downgraded on the injury report from doubtful to out and would not travel with the team to Atlanta to play the Falcons. This will be only the fourth game in Peterson’s five-year NFL career that he will miss.
Toby Gerhart will be the featured runner in Peterson’s place.
Also, the Vikings waived wide receiver Stephen Burton and signed tight end Allen Reisner from the practice squad because their top two tight ends are hurting.
Footnotes.
Panthers tight end Jeremy Shockey is listed as probable for today’s game in Indianapolis. Shockey missed last weekend’s game with injured ribs but was a full participant in practice all week.
• The Colts waived linebacker Adrian Moten, who had played in 10 games this season, primarily on special teams.
• The Giants put wide receiver Michael Clayton on season-ending injured reserve and signed defensive end Justin Trattou (practice squad).
