Two people were killed and four were injured in a trio of road accidents early Saturday.
At 12:30 a.m., a suspected drunken driver allegedly sped through a red light in Aurora and slammed into the side of another car, killing the driver of that vehicle.
Three others were also injured in the crash at East Iliff Avenue and South Havana Street, according to Aurora police Lt. Chuck DeShazer.
The driver of a 2004 Pontiac died of massive injuries and a passenger in the same car was rushed to a hospital, DeShazer said.
Two people in a black 2011 Hyundai were also hospitalized with injuries, he said.
The identities of those involved in the accident have not been released.
The Hyundai was going westbound on Iliff when it sped through a red light and broadsided the Pontiac, which was headed south on Havana, on the driver’s side.
Aurora police indicated that excessive speed and alcohol consumption appear to be contributing factors.
At 8:45 a.m., one person was killed in a crash at Interstate 25 at the Buckeye exit near Fort Collins.
Colorado State Patrol troopers said the man was driving east on Buckeye Road when his blue Volvo sedan with Colorado license plates drifted right and into an abutment for the Interstate 25 overpass.
Officials have not released the name of the victim.
At 9:55 a.m., one person was rushed to a local hospital after being extricated from a car that had rolled onto its roof on the bank of the South Platte River.
The condition of the victim, whose name has not been released, was not immediately available, said Lt. Phil Champagne, Denver Fire Department spokesman.
The accident happened near 1685 S. Platte St., Champagne said.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
