A 22-year-old woman has been pronounced dead at Longmont United Hospital after being hit by a semi at Ute Highway and Lake Park Drive this morning.

Dispatchers reported the accident at 10:21a.m. Early police scanner calls said the woman appeared to have been hitchhiking, but Sgt. Kevin Parker of the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said he couldn’t confirm that.

The highway has been shut down from Hover Street to North Shore Drive. The accident is under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Colorado State Patrol; Longmont police are assisting with the scene.

The Penske tractor-trailer was headed east on the highway when it struck the woman, just east of Lake Park Drive. A single moccasin and three brown towels could still be seen at the accident site.
