DENVER—Gov. John Hickenlooper says the state will promote economic development by partnering private, public and academic organizations through an initiative called the Colorado Innovation Network.
Hickenlooper announced Monday that one of the goals will be to work with industry leaders to promote and foster innovation. He used the technological advances in Silicon Valley as an example Colorado can follow. The initiative, also known as COIN, will not have state funding and will rely on privately raised funds for support.
Hickenlooper says Colorado can take advantage of having several federal research laboratories like the National Renewable Energy Lab to collaborate with academic researchers at Colorado State University, the University of Colorado and the Colorado School of Mines.
COIN will be part of the governor’s Office of Economic Development and International Trade.
