Colorado junior linebacker Jon Major on Monday was tabbed the Pac-12 Conference defensive player of the week after he led the Buffaloes’ defense in a 17-14 victory over host Utah on Friday.
Major, from Ponderosa High School in Parker, recorded nine tackles, including two for a loss. He also had a crucial sack in the fourth quarter that set the Utes back 7 yards.
The Buffs’ defense held Utah to 39 yards and one first down in the first half, and the Utes’ 274 total yards were the second-lowest allowed by CU this season — topped only by Colorado State.
Major joined Pac-12 offensive award winner Matt Barkley, a junior QB at USC, and California kicker Giorgio Tavecchio.
Buffs benefit from Gill’s firing.
Kansas’ recruiting loss became Colorado’s gain Monday when defensive end De’Jon Wilson of Washington, D.C., announced that he has switched to the Buffaloes following KU’s firing of coach Turner Gill, according to the recruiting-based website . Wilson, 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds, is a senior at H.D. Woodson High School and ranks fourth among prospects in Washington, D.C.
