Colorado Ballet’s “Nutcracker season” has begun, and in keeping with a 21-year tradition, Saturday’s opening-night performance was made that much sweeter with the introduction of the 25 second-grade girls who are the Nutcracker Sugarplums for 2011. Their presentation at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House was preceded by the Sugarplum Ball, a dinner, dance and magic show held Friday night at the Brown Palace Hotel.
