BEAVER CREEK, Colo.—The first training session for a World Cup downhill race on the Birds of Prey course has been canceled so workers can shave down sections of the hill to help control speed.

The jury elected to skip the run on a clear-blue Tuesday because racers were getting too much air on a portion of the course.

Another training session is scheduled for Wednesday. But it could be windy as the leading edge of a storm passes through the area. Snow is expected to fall on Thursday.

Racers have to squeeze in at least one training run before competing in the downhill race on Friday.
