A police veteran with 25 years of experience will lead the Castle Rock Police Department in 2012.

Jack Cauley, deputy chief of the police department in Overland, Kan., will take the reigns in Castle Rock to start the new year, according to a media release from the town.

Castle Rock town council voted unanimously Tuesday to ratify Cauley as police chief. Cauley starts his new post on Jan. 3.

He succeeds former Chief Tony Lane, who retired in September after 24 years with Castle Rock police.

In Overland, Cauley served in various jobs including patrol, investigations, traffic, professional standards and crime analysis.

Cauley holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, a master of public administration from the University of Kansas and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
