Assistant Pastor Tracy Dodson is no stranger to the tradition of holiday giving, but this year his church, Calvary Chapel Eastside, gave a gift it didn’t intend to part with.

One of the church’s pine trees was cut down Saturday night, Dodson said, and most likely was whisked away as a free Christmas tree.

“It’s pretty obvious why they took it,” Dodson said Tuesday.

There are tire tracks near the tree’s stump where a vehicle backed in to haul it away.
