ALAMOSA, Colo.—Two people face charges including animal cruelty and criminal mischief over the treatment of horses in southern Colorado.
The Valley Courier of Alamosa reports ( ) that 34-year-old Kristina Kremer of Sanford and 53-year-old William Barter of Conejos appeared in court Wednesday. Each faces 65 counts.
No phone number could be found for Kremer or Barter. It wasn’t clear whether either had an attorney.
The Colorado State Patrol began an investigation in June after complaints of horses illegally grazing and destroying crops. The patrol has said some of the animals showed signs of neglect.
The patrol says Kremer owned the horses and Barter was the caretaker for the horses and Kremer’s property.
Authorities say they have seized more than 30 horses, a bull, a cow and a calf as part of the investigation.
