Former Gov. Bill Ritter underwent an appendectomy Wednesday after falling ill the night before.

Ritter said Thursday that he was doing well and working on the eulogy he will deliver at the funeral for philanthropist and restaurant owner Noel Cunningham today at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral.

Ritter, who left office in January, began feeling sick Tuesday night while at public events. “It just came on so fast,” he said.

He gave a talk on sustainability at the Wynkoop Brewing Co., then headed to another restaurant for a fundraiser for Denver Mayor Michael Hancock.

By the time he got home, he was looking up his symptoms on Google. He then drove himself to nearby Porter Adventist Hospital. His appendix was removed at 6 a.m. Wednesday. He was released by 4 p.m. that day. Lynn Bartels, The Denver Post
