Getting your player ready...
San Juan Mountain Guides, , 970-325-4925
Why go now: This new and free program aims to get your offspring, ages 8-17, excited about hanging off a 40-foot-high, 140-foot-wide slab of ice at the Ouray Ice park in freezing temps, sometimes in the middle of a snowstorm, while you go get a nice, warm mug of hot cocoa or coffee. What’s not to like? There are a dozen route options of varying degrees of difficulty, and all of the equipment and the instruction are included. The camps — offered Dec. 26 noon-4 p.m.; Jan. 8 10 a.m.-2 p.m; Jan. 7 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; and Feb. 12 noon-4 p.m. — are available on a first-come, first-served basis and require an adult to sign a release.
