The pope not only tweets, he used a computer tablet Wednesday to trigger the lighting of an electronic Christmas tree billed as the world’s biggest display of its kind.

Pope Benedict XVI tapped a Sony Tablet S in the Vatican to illuminate, via wireless connection, an array of 1,000 lights covering 1.4 million square feet, or the equivalent of “30 soccer fields,” on a mountainside in Gubbio, Italy, the Associated Press reports.

Benedict, 84, has embraced new technology, tweeting for the first time earlier this year.
