Fire investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of a fire that gutted a business near Longmont on Monday, prompting a hazardous-materials response and evacuation of two neighboring homes.
Firefighters dispatched to Colorado Precision Plating Inc. at 9889 N. 65th St. at 6:45 a.m. Monday found the building fully engulfed in flames, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. Because of chemicals used at the business, the Boulder County Hazardous Materials Team was dispatched to assist firefighters. A 150-foot buffer zone was established around the fire, and two neighboring homes were evacuated.
No one was in the business at the time of the fire and no one was seriously hurt, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Paramedics were requested to treat two people, who were on oxygen. It is not known whether those being treated were firefighters or residents.
A sign in front of the building says “C.P.P. Anodizing & Plating.” Anodizing is a process through which metal is given a protective coating. Longmont Times-Call
