BRECKENRIDGE, Colo.—Prosecutors are preparing to file more charges against a Breckenridge lawyer accused of stealing at least $500,000 from his clients and then fleeing.
Royal “Scoop” Daniel appeared in court in Breckenridge on Thursday to be advised of the charges he already faces.
District Attorney Mark Hurlbert said that more victims have come forward since Daniel was arrested last week as he tried to cross into California from Mexico.
The Summit Daily News () reported that Daniel was subdued as he was led into the courtroom in shackles.
Daniel disappeared in 2007. Within two week, police obtained a warrant for Daniel’s arrest.
Daniel told a San Diego television station that he had been living in Acapulco doing translation work. He also said the missing money is in a bank.
