MIDDLETOWN, Conn.—A psychiatrist who examined a Massachusetts man charged with killing a Wesleyan University student has testified that he showed signs of psychosis.
Psychiatrist Donald Grayson met with Stephen Morgan in March at the request of the state but testified Wednesday as a defense witness. He said symptoms that Morgan showed as a child could be considered precursors for a progressive psychosis.
Morgan, a native of Marblehead, Mass., is accused of fatally shooting 21-year-old Johanna Justin-Jinich (yoh-HAH’-nah JUHS’-tihn JIHN’-ihk) of Timnath, Colo., at an off-campus bookstore cafe in 2009.
Defense attorneys arguing the case in in state court in Middletown are seeking a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity.
Other mental health experts have said the 32-year-old Stephen Morgan has shown signs of paranoid schizophrenia.
Closing arguments are expected on Friday.
