The University of Colorado football team will host a nationally televised game next Oct. 11, a Thursday night game as part of the Pac-12 Conference’s TV contract.

said Friday the TV game was reported in a message Chancellor Phil DiStefano sent to faculty and staff. The opponent will be determined later. The Pac-12 told CU that full schedules will be released Jan. 4, CU sports information director David Plati said. The Buffs will host five conference home games next season: Arizona State, Stanford, UCLA, Washington and Utah. The Oct. 11 game will not be against Utah, as the Utes and Buffs will continue to play the final regular-season game each year.

The Buffs’ road games will be at Arizona, Oregon, USC and Washington State.

Also, senior guard Ryan Miller has been invited to play in the East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 21 in St. Petersburg, Fla., Plati said. Quarterback Tyler Hansen is the first alternate quarterback for the game.

• Coach Jon Embree received his seventh commitment from a defensive lineman — Samson Kafovalu, a 6-foot-3, 245-pound defensive end from Arlington High School in Riverside, Calif. Kafovalu is a three-star prospect by and and chose the Buffs over offers from several other Pac-12 schools, Boise State and Nevada.

Dalton repeats honor. Nicole Dalton of Chaparral High School is the Gatorade Colorado volleyball player of the year for the second consecutive season after the 6-foot-2 outside hitter led the Wolverines to a 31-0 record and their second straight 5A state championship.

Accardi adds to accolades. Colorado Mines junior punter Taylor Accardi received his second national recognition of the week when he was named to The Associated Press’s Little All-America second team. Daktronics named Accardi to its Division II first team.

Place-kicker Kyle Major and linebacker Lee Meisner of CSU-Pueblo were named to the Little All-America third team, as was defensive lineman Connor Wright of Colorado Mesa. Wright received first-team honors from Daktronics, and Major and Meisner were on Daktronic’s second team.

Colorado rugby advances. The University of Colorado club rugby team went 2-1 on the first day of USA Rugby’s College Men’s Sevens Championship finalsin College Station, Texas, to advance to today’s quarterfinals. Air Force lost all three of its matches and did not advance.
