LAFAYETTE, Colo.—A massive hay fire in Boulder County is estimated to have caused thousands of dollars of damage.

The fire was burning Friday north of Lafayette.

Farm manager George Rorchers told the Daily Times-Call ( ) the fire has consumed about 1,000 bales of hay owned by Leistkow Farms and damaged a tractor. He says the hay had been sold to a dairy in Mead. He estimates damage at around $100,000.

No structures were threatened, and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters are allowing the fire to burn itself out, which could take days.

The cause of the fire is not known, but wet hay can spontaneously combust.

KCNC-TV in Denver reports the property where the fire was burning is owned by Boulder County but is leased for farming.
