DENVER—Gov. John Hickenlooper and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock have formed an exploratory committee to look at whether Colorado should try to host the 2022 Winter Games.

The Denver Post () reported that an announcement about the committee is expected Friday.

The Post said the committee will be led by Don Elliman, a former director of the state’s economic development department, and Anne Warhover, chief executive of the Colorado Health Foundation. It will also include at least two members from mountain communities—Vail Valley Foundation chairman Harry Frampton and former Breckenridge mayor Ernie Blake.

Colorado won a bid to host the 1976 Olympic Games but then voters overwhelmingly rejected the idea.
