Davis Phinney knows the thrill of competing at cycling’s most elite levels in front of large Colorado crowds better than anyone.
Nearly a quarter of a century after the Red Zinger/Coors Classic glory days came to an end, the local legend felt a podium-like high when the USA Pro Cycling Challenge announced that next August’s race will include Boulder as a host city.
“To have a race of this magnitude coming back even bigger and stronger than the Coors Classic, I couldn’t be more excited for fans of cycling and people who have had a history with Boulder,” Phinney said during a recent interview with the Camera. “I feel like we deserve to have the race here, and I’m just glad it all worked out with the race organizing committee.”
